Oceandrift – out now

The latest offering from the 64 bar collective is now on Bandcamp, available as a name your own price download.

Oceandrift is a remix chain. What the hell is a remix chain?

Kelp explained: “A remix chain is the process of a second artist remixing a track delivered to them by the first artist, and then passing the stems of the remixed track onto a third artist, and so on. Eventually, the penultimate person passes their remixed stems back around to the original artist, who remixes all the remixes in one track to complete the chain”

Geddit?

“The results are astounding, considering each part of the chain only hears the previous track,” said Kovas, from 64 bar music.

“This is a bit of a break from the norm for 64bar, as the tracks aren’t constrained by the normal parameters of tempo or length.

Oceandrift is a marvelous journey from the opening track, which floats underwater, through hard-edged electronic noise and leading-edge progressive sounds. You can get it right now, here

Cleared for landing

A new EP is on the horizon for 64 Bar Music and due to be released this week. It’s a collection of beats, bass and delicate tones that is sure to engage the ears of any fans of the previous 64 bar challenges.

The release has been organised by Kelp and is linked with a previous 64 bar mix. We talked to Kelp to find out more

“The whole thing started off because I really wanted to go back to my track Clear Off that was on the 64 Bar Challenge 5 mix and improve on its sound, work on it some more. Some friends from Soundcloud took a listen to it and asked if they could remix it so I sent some stems out. This then led to me deciding to collect a bunch of remixes to put out there as an official release. I asked some of the previous contributors to 64 bar challenge if they’d like to be involved as well and got positive responses.” said Kelp

The result is an EP containing the original Clear Off track and seven other remixes from some very talented artists. “The range of styles on offer is brilliant, I was surprised by every remix, the way the simple sounds of my original track had been transformed with each remix was amazing. We’ve got a shimmering, very delicate & fragile sounding take from Techniken Defunkus, a grinding noisy grungey remix from Loose Shark Tooth which is a project by Remi/Rough, right through to very heavy beats from Day of Vengeance and KAL”.

The release will be out on Thursday this week via the 64 Bar bandcamp, mastering has been carried out by Christopher Leary at
Melograf Mastering and should hit the right notes for anyone who loves heavy bass and beats.

“Also coming soon is the Ninja Remix Chain project, look out for it in the next month or two,” Kelp said.

Hints of the remix chain

For a few months now previous contributors to the 64 bar challenge mixes and some other Ninja forum members have been collaborating together on a new project known at the moment as The Ninja Remix Chain. 64 Bar Music caught up with organiser Kelp to find out more..

Lopez – Dropping bombs

Lopez are three DJ/producers originally from Paraguay who have been making beat music for a few years now with releases on Keep Up! and Brownswood.

They lit up 64:5 with three ridiculously hot tracks, and have a pair of EP’s coming out in the next couple of weeks via Junodownload.com so 64bar spent some time chatting to Cosmo Lopez. (that’s the handsome one on the left of the picture above)

64bar challenge: remix1 -108bpm

So, many people have been asking about doing a remix mix, so lets do it.

We might as well start at the start so first up, we’ll be remixing tracks from the first 64bc, from June 2009 @ 108 bpm.

Anyone can enter, and we’ll get the stems up soon. It’s possible we could put all the samples from all the tracks into one big zip file for a mashed  up soup approach.

No point in stifling creativity now is there.

Here’s the facts:

Track Length:  64 bars.. or extend out to 128 or 192
Tempo: 108 bpm
Deadline for confirming you want in is 1 Jan 2010.. then we’ll get cracking
